Altenew Academy – Celebration: Stencil Techniques

Hello everyone!  Thank you so much for letting me be a part of your day.  I’m here today to share my next class on my journey through Altenew’s Educator Program.  Today we are playing with stencils!  This class really had me look at my stencils in a whole new way.  You will see that I could not stop creating once I started.

For these two cards here I used the Aztec Dreams Creativity Kit.  I purchased this kit as part of a virtual workshop and I really thought this would not be something I would reach for.  Was I wrong!  I absolutely loved creating with this kit.  I used different parts of the stencil for my cards to show how versatile the stencil is.  I did bring some supplies out of my ever-growing Altenew stash to help make these cards amazing.  For the Be A Dreamer card I used Altenew’s Embossing Paste mixed with the Antique Gold Metallic Shimmer spray.  I was surprised to not see any hints of metallics in the sprays once they were mixed with the embossing paste, but they were still gorgeous!  For the card, I used the top portion of the image on the stencil.  I then used Altenew’s Embossing Ink and Black Embossing Powder to create my sentiment.  The stamp does have an arrow and some dots, I just cut them off to make the sentiment work for me.  I embossed two feathers from the set with Altenew’s Silver embossing powder and that finished off my first card.  My second was similar to the first, but I changed it up a bit.  I used the Lagoon Metallic Shimmer spray and the bottom half of the stencil.  For both cards, I measured the base at 2.75″ so I could be equal on each part of the stenciling I did. I then heat embossed another sentiment from the kit with gold embossing powder.  I used the same feather image, but heat embossed with platinum embossing powder this time.  I did not plan on using as many feathers as I did, but I smudged my embossing paste by touching it too soon and voila, more feathers!
I fell in love with the “Follow your dreams” sentiment and had to make a 3×4 card for my pocket pages to be used at a later date.  I find its best to do when you already have the supplies out.  This also shows the great versatility of these products you get in the kits.
The next three cards I created were actually using a different stencil.  These cards were created using the Foliage Stencil.

I used the embossing paste for the first layer of the stencil.  In the last photo, you can see I colored the embossing paste and simply added the hello sentiment from Handwritten Hello.  I used the shadow layer here instead of using both.  I also used Altenew’s Gold Foil cardstock that I am determined to use and not hoard because it is so shiny and beautiful!!  The other two cards I changed my treatment of the embossing powder. The middle card had plain embossing paste and I used the Gold Metallic Spray for the second layer of the stencil.  It adds such a delicate beautiful touch.  The card on the far left I went all out and added embossing powder to my embossing paste for the beautiful sparkle.  I then added the second layer with the Gold Metallic Spray.  I was not as careful on this card as I was with the other and there are droplets on my card.  I’m okay with that — just another beautiful touch.
Thank you so much for spending a few minutes of your day with me checking out my creations.  Once you start stenciling with embossing paste it is REALLY hard to stop!
