Altenew Academy – Irresistible Inking Techniques

Hello everyone and thank you for sharing your day with me!  I am excited to share this project with you for a few reasons.  The first being I had such fun making it and the second being it is my last class of level one!  I can’t believe I made it.  Life has been pushy lately, but I have been making a point to get into the craft room as much needed self-care.  I am looking forward to my special assignment from Altenew so that I can move onto level 2.

This is a bit different from my normal card base.  I have been seeing slimline cards everywhere and it has been ages since I made one.  My card base is cut to 8.5″ X 3.5″.  I recently purchased the Seasons of Joy Creativity Kit and you can imagine the focus is on the holidays.  I wanted to be able to use this for a non-holiday card.  I looked through my stamps and found a sentiment that would build a phrase.  I also wanted to make a one-layer card.  Although, technically, this is not a one-layer card as my gray cardstock adds the slightest dimension.  I cut my letters out of copy paper and also out of a template made from Neenah Solar White 110# cardstock.  I put my template over my card base and started blending on my inks using my Altenew Large Blending Brush.  I used Altenew Peach Perfect, Forest Glades, and Caribbean Sky for the word JOY.  If you duplicate this card, don’t forget to put a mask in the middle of your ‘O’.  I blended the ink until I was happy with the effects.  I then used the letters I cut out of copy paper to mask off my blended letters.  I used the small floral cluster from Poppy Garden to add some interest to my background.  I thought of using a beautiful gold-tone for my ink but settled on Altenew’s Silver Lake which is a beautiful light gray.  I didn’t want to overpower my beautiful ink blending which I wanted to be the star!  I turned to Altenew’s Sketchy Floral set for my fitting sentiment.  I again mentally went through a few inks but wanted a subtle effect against my ink blending.  I used a gray scrap piece of cardstock and the Silver Lake ink for my sentiment which I adhered directly to my panel.  I toyed with adding foam tape but wanted to keep it as flat as possible for mailing.
I hope seeing this card makes you look at your stamps and dies in a different way.  We all invest our money into our products and it is great to get more uses out of them.
Again, thank you for sharing part of your day with me.  Until next time I wish you health, safety, and happy crafting!
