Altenew Academy – In The Mood for Color

Hello and welcome back to my blog.  Thank you for sharing part of your time with me today.  Today we are working on projects focused on color.  While it is fun to focus on one color, there are so many why limit ourselves?  Each color has certain properties to it.  Many of us have heard blue, for example, referred to as a calming color.

For my card today I took a project that had been clanging around in my head for some time and bring it to fruition.  It was the reason I purchased this particular stamp and die set, Crystal Frames.

I started by die-cutting all four frames from white cardstock.  I then used Fresh Lemon, Hydrangea, Aqualicious, and Coral Bliss along with my Altenew Large Blending Brushes to color the cardstock.  I only used the actual frame piece for this project, but I saved the rest of the pieces to these shapes for a future project by placing painters tape on the back of the cardstock.  In order to fit all four frames ( I couldn’t choose one to leave out), I had to make my card a bit larger than the standard slimline card.  The length is the same at 8.5″, but the width is 4.0″ instead of the normal 3.5″.  I chose to use Altenew Pale Grey cardstock for my front panel as the white looked too stark to me.  I laid the dies out on my grey cardstock panel and cut them out in one pass of my die cut machine.  Then, came the fun part for me.  It is like a LARGE puzzle.  I glued in the frames and then placed in all the grey pieces into the holes.  This was a super therapeutic process and I am looking forward to repeating this card with the leftover pieces from my colored die-cuts.

After everything was paper pieced together I had to choose a sentiment.  There are so many beautiful and fitting sentiments.  I was originally going to put one in each of the middles.  When I laid the stamps out it looked too cluttered to my eye.  After all the time I put into this card front, I did not want to mess up at this point.  I chose one of the sentiments and moved it around the middles until it looked pleasing to my eye.  I was also going to add in some of the gorgeous enamel dots from Altenew, but I kept looking at this card as I was working in my office and fell in love with it just the way it was.  I recommend taking time with your creations sometimes.  Let them speak to you, so to speak!  I am guilty of wanting to put all the beautiful things on my cards, but sometimes I need to step back.
Thank you again for joining me on my journey.  This has definitely been a wonderful and life changing experience for me.  It has been fun to complete these classes.  Even when you start one and you think I already know how to do this, you pick up new ideas or tips.  I’ve been in this industry for 18+ years now and I am happy to say I learn something new everytime I sit down to craft.
Until next time, stay safe and happy crafting!
