Altenew Academy – Demystifying Mixed Media

Hello friends and thank you for joining me today.
This class was a challenge for me.  I have a hard time with mixed media.  I feel that my personal style is more clean and simple.  Plus, I hate to get dirty or sticky fingers….I know, strange for a crafter to say that phrase.
I was really nervous in creating my project.  My friend Susan told me to “get messy”!  I did just that, lol!
I started by creating my background.  I decided to pull out my Altenew Ink Sprays in Cool Summer Night, these include Sea Glass, Ocean Waves and Dusk.
I sprayed all three of these onto a glass mat in a random fashion and used Altenew Watercolor cardstock to use the ink smooshing technique.  If you want to have a lighter color try spraying your paper or the ink with water.  For really light, spray both.
Once my background dried I took the Modern Circle stencil and sprayed the back with Pixie Spray.  I attached the stencil at an angle and then sprayed Dusk ink spray onto my background. I set that aside to dry overnight.
The next morning I took the trellis stencil and applied embossing paste making sure not to be perfect in application.  I then sprinkled on my new favorite Translucent Pearly embossing powder and used my heat tool to set it.  I love the look you achieve when you heat embossing paste, it will bubble up in some areas.  The shine of the embossing powder adds another level of dimension. Once the embossing paste was dry, I took the sprayer out of the ink spray bottle and dabbed on a few drops onto the background.

For my focal image I used my Build-A-Flower: Canterbury Bells.  I have been dying to use this stamp set and was so excited with the end product.  When using stamp sets with stems and flowers on one image I like to use the die to make sure I get my stamp lined up correctly.  There is nothing worse than stamping your image and then finding out it was crooked.  Many of us have had that happen!  I added foam squares to the back of my image for dimension.  I absolutely love the sentiments I used from Altenew Penned Rose.  The phrase “that is all.” is absolutely phenomenal and I feel I will get a lot of use out of it.  That is one of the things I love most about Altenew.  In their stamp sets you can find your voice.  Things that you would say in your life and put them into your works of art.

Thank you so much for stopping by to see my creation.  Make sure to check out this Altenew Academy class, it has something for everyone.  That is what I love about these classes. Even if you know how to do a technique, you can get such great inspiration from the projects shared.
Until next time, be safe, be kind, and happy crafting!
