Simple Card Sunday
Hello everyone! As I made this card for simple card Sunday all I could think of was a television show I had watched recently. In an episode of Nip/Tuck, Rose McGowan talks about making “garbage salad”. You take everything that is still good in the refrigerator and add it into this salad. That is kind of my card today.
Since I am an educator with Altenew, I create many projects. There are always extra pieces that need to find a home! Today, some of those pieces did just that. Now, I just need to attack the other 500 pieces I have. As they say, one piece at a time!
I started with the Grid cover die. I die-cut this twice from Neenah Solar White 80# and stacked the pieces. I had the florals leftover from my regular FREE Saturday virtual workshop from yesterday. Some folks were having difficulty with layering the Craft-A-Flower: Morning Glory, so we went step-by-step assembling the florals. For these florals I used gradient card stocks in Green Meadows for the leaves. For the flowers I used Blush, Rouge, Velvet, and Warm Sunshine card stocks from Altenew. I will post a photo at the end of the cards I created yesterday.
I had a diamond fine frame that was cut from Gold Foil card stock left over from projects for an upcoming workshop! I felt the way the florals curved they would fit perfectly in this diamond shape. I did have to cut additional pieces of the “Hello” sentiment from Navy card stock. I was not happy with only one layer. I ended up cutting two additional “hello” sentiments from Navy card stock and then layered them together for dimension.
I was super happy with how this project turned out. I definitely will be making more “garbage salad” cards!
The cards I created yesterday used the Striped Circle Background for my card front panels. I stamped one in Antique Gold pigment ink and the other in Silver Stone (from the Rock Collection Family).
I felt the green gradient card stocks were competing with my colors, so I decided to use Altenew gray card stocks for the leaves and the first layer of my floral on the gold card. The gray card stocks I used were Dark Gray, Pale Gray, and Real Gray. Since I discussed the gold card we will continue with supplies that I used for this card. I used Jet Black and Gold Foil card stocks for the florals. I stamped a sentiment from the Striped Circle set in Obsidian pigment ink in the center of the circle.
For my second card, I used the Sea Shore gradient card stock set. The two little centers were made from the Gold Foil card stock – why not, right?!? I had the hugs sentiment from the script words die set sitting on my desk from a previous project. It is simply four Neenah Solar White die-cuts layered together with Peach Gold wide washi tape. I am thinking of changing the color. It looked nice at first, but I’m just not sure I’m in love with it. I’m going to try some Gold foil (of course) and my friend Pam suggested some gray. But, that is an easy fix.
I will soon post my guide to using the Craft-A-Flower: Morning Glory set. It will likely be in video format and include a guide that you can download. It just has a few tips that help me when I get these dies in the first time.
If you haven’t been to one my Saturday virtual workshops, you should try one! They are absolutely FREE!!! We spend about two hours together working with different Altenew products. I try to make three A2 sized cards, unless we are working with a more complicated set. This will let you see what a virtual workshop with me is like. I do have virtual workshops that require payment. I understand that everyone has different financial situations, so I really wanted to make sure that everyone gets to participate.
