Altenew Build-A-Flower: Tree Peony Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello everyone! I’m so excited to be sharing this amazing new Build-A-Flower. You should have arrived from the amazing Verity’s blog. If you did not, make sure you start at the Altenew Card Blog so you don’t miss any of the inspiration!

Are you ready for a gorgeous tree peony in full bloom? This set features an outline image and three coordinating coloring layers each for the petals and flower center. The coloring layers have been drawn in detail for stunning realism! We have also included a leaf image (outline + three coloring layers) and a dainty little branch with small buds and leaves. The images are handy for flower arrangements or bouquets on your handmade cards, scrapbook layouts, journal pages, and DIY decor projects. Finally, finish off your project with any of the six sweet sentiments included in the set.

There are options if you would like to purchase this stamp set. I highly recommend the monthly subscription. It is at a discounted price, and you don’t have to think about it! It ships to you every month. Altenew has made it easy if you have to skip a month as well.

We all love to make cards for happier occasions, unfortunately, those are not the only cards we make. I’m so happy to have this set in my stash. Not only for the gorgeous floral, but for the sentiments. These two phrases (Sometimes, there are no words and It’s okay you’re not okay) are common in my life since the passing of my husband.

I started with a piece of Moon rock card stock and Limestone ink. I used the floral sprig image to cover the card panel. The sentiment is stamped in Obsidian pigment ink. These are cards that are super, super simple to make. Always good to have on hand for those sad or difficult times.

This card was a definite labor of love! While the card was simple enough to construct, I struggled with colors and placement. I have so many pictures of my different arrangements. When I finally decided on this — I heard the angels sing!

I started with a piece of Neenah Solar White 80# card stock. I applied embossing paste through the On The Plus Side stencil. I didn’t want perfect coverage, although it went on pretty good. If I try to get perfect coverage, I can’t — if I don’t want it, I get it! Does that happen to you guys??

I was careful to leave a spot for the sentiment, which is stamped in Obsidian pigment ink. This is my favorite sentiment. It honestly has been a mantra since Sean passed. I think it is such an important message for folks to embrace.

I used my absolute favorite Rock Collection for my floral and leaves. The outline was stamped in Pure Graphite. This is a go-to ink pad for me when black seems to dark. I skipped the first layer of the floral (A2) and started with A3, stamped in Limestone crisp dye ink. Layer A4 was stamped in Silver Stone crisp dye ink. The leaves were stamped similarly. The outline (C1) was stamped in Pure Graphite, C2 Limestone, C3 Silver Stone, and C4 Industrial Diamond. This could have been a monochromatic card if I had changed the center. It took me awhile to settle on my center – all the yellow combinations seemed to bright with the gray. The yellow combination is Buttercream, Butternut and Vanilla Cream. This will absolutely be a combination I go to again and again when I need a delicate yellow.

I had fun playing with color on this card! I used Coffee Break for my floral, and sentiment. My leaves were stamped with Sea Shore. My yellow combination was the one suggested by the back of the layering guide – Warm Sunshine, Honey Drizzle, and Snapdragon. For this floral I skipped the first levels (A1 & C1). Not having the outline on images sometimes gives it a more delicate look. I love that Altenew stamps allow you to do this technique. It really gives you more option for one stamp set!

Once my floral and leaves were complete, I moved onto the background. Spicy Yogurt card stock was the perfect compliment to the colors I chose. I added double-sided adhesive to the back of the card stock before die-cutting the Circle Quilt cover die. Amazingly, I remembered to use the double-sided adhesive! I need to put a note on my die-cut machine to remind me, lol! It makes life so easy peasy! The die-cut panel was placed onto another piece of Spicy Yogurt card stock. My sentiment was stamped on Spicy Yogurt with Espresso ink and die-cut with the Featured Sentiments die. I adhered my sentiment into place with Glue Tape pen.
