Altenew Summer Adventure Stand-alone Dies Collection Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello everyone! I’m excited to be here with you hopping along. You should have arrived from the amazing Emily Midgett‘s blog. If not, head on back to Altenew Blog to start at the beginning. Trust me, you don’t want to miss one stop on this amazing journey of inspiration.

You can see the whole stand-alone die release here.

If you guys could have been in my craft room while I was making this you would have laughed! So, back in the day I was a cheerleader and I had an old cheer stuck in my head. As I was working on this project I was dancing around my office doing said cheer…..at forty-something, lol! My card was made with my school colors – purple, gray and white. There is technically no white, but you all get the idea.

Luckily, Altenew just released these amazing New Purple gradient card stocks and they were PERFECT! I actually remember to put the adhesive sheets on the back of the gradient card stock before cutting the amazing new Rippling Rings die. It made application so super simple! I used Moonrock card stock as my base to keep in line with my school colors.

I did not put a sentiment on for a few reasons. Firstly, I liked the look of this as a simple notecard. Not every card has to have a sentiment to be “finished”. Secondly, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to say at the moment besides Crusaders, fight, fight, fight. I wasn’t confident that would be a great card to share with others!

This card was just absolute fun from beginning to end! The second I saw this die – LOVE! I love the Moroccan products that Altenew already has and this is the perfect addition. This is the Moroccan Lattice Cover Die. I ended up using the bits leftover from this card on another card. But, I’m getting ahead of myself!

I started with Moonrock card stock to die-cut the cover die three times. I totally forgot to add the adhesive sheets to the back of the card stock. Definitely do this! It was still okay, it wasn’t difficult to add adhesive.

I started with the cover die-cut upside down on my desk. I applied scor-tape to to the back. I pulled the backings off and laid my tulle down. I put extra on the panel, knowing I could trim it later. I then added liquid adhesive to adhere the other two panels. Once my base was built, I added the sequins into the open areas.

To avoid having to flip it over and …well, you know what happens, I cut a piece of card stock bigger than my card panel. I adhered it down and THEN flipped it over. I trimmed off the extra card stock and tulle hanging over the edges.

I really wanted to have a delicate, romantic feel to this card. The tulle really set the pace with this feel. I decided to add one of the MANY roses I constructed from the Craft-A-Flower: Antique Rose die set. It was the perfect finish to this card.

But…I had all the left over pieces from the other card. I took an A2 panel and started layering my pieces. I used the cover die as my road map. It really didn’t take that long, however, I did add foam tape to every section — that took a bit. I am SO happy with the result and it was worth the investment of time.

I really wanted to keep the same delicate, romantic feel on this card as well. I decided to use the amazing new All About You die set. I die cut the words from Gold Foil card stock and the shadow from vellum. Vellum is a secret weapon many times. In this case, it helps to separate my sentiment from my background.

Out of all the projects I created for this release, this has to be my favorite. I don’t work with alcohol inks a lot, but I am starting to more. Every time I use them, I fall in love a bit more. I am very careful about using these as you can get sick from the fumes. I make sure to have a VERY well ventilated area and have started using one of my many face masks. Safety first!

I used the Sea Shore and Green Valley family of alcohol ink refills. I created them each onto a full piece of Yupo paper. I then used my scissors to trim out the area I needed for each color. I didn’t want to waste a single piece of the alcohol goodness!

For the frame, I really wanted it to have the wood feel. I used the Woodgrain Bark card stock and it was PERFECT. I did remember to add the adhesive sheets to the Woodgrain Bark card stock. I was so happy with this project. I love when you see something in your head and the outcome matches it!
