Altenew Build-A-Flower: Bearded Iris Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello everyone 👋🏼. I am super excited to be hopping with you today to celebrate a wonderful addition to the Altenew Build-A-Flower family — Bearded Iris! You should have arrived here from the dazzling Daniel Diaz’s blog. If you haven’t, head on over to the Altenew card blog to see Nathalie’s post.

Build-A-Flower – Bearded Iris:

If you are looking for the most elegant and realistic iris, you are in the right place! This stamp set prominently features a gorgeous bearded iris outline with four additional coloring layers, along with its stems and leaves. You may use the other iris outline as background foliage, or simply add it to floral arrangements stamped as is or colored in with your favorite coloring medium.

For my first card, I used Martian Terrain and Nature’s Wonder ink families for my Bearded Iris. I added this to a card panel made of Gold Foil card stock (5.25 x 4) that had been embossed with the Waffle Diamonds 3D embossing folder. I also embossed a piece of Dark Gray card stock with the same folder and lined up the embossing.

I chose a sentiment from the set and embossed with Antique Gold embossing powder on a scrap of Dark Gray card stock. I save all my little pieces — just for things like this! To finish this card panel, I adhered the sentiment and floral flat.

This card is my absolute favorite! You all know how I feel about the black, white, and gold combo. I chose the floral that had no layers included with the set. I stamped it nine times with Obsidian pigment ink and heat set with Crystal Clear embossing powder. I die-cut all the images. Once they were all cut, I started laying them out onto my card panel. Once I had an arrangement I was happy with, I started applying foam tape to the back of my florals. As I would trim off pieces that were overhanging, I would add them back in strategically to fill the panel.

Once my panel was complete, I had to decide on a sentiment. I happened to have one of the Featured Sentiments die cut out of Gold Foil card stock that was in my extras. I stamped my chosen sentiment onto white card stock with Obsidian pigment ink. I adhered this flat to the Gold Foil die-cut. I placed foam tape on the back of the Gold Foil piece in areas that would not be supported by my florals.

This is a set that is good to check where your stems are. I like to lay my die down first, place my stamp in there, and ensure my stamp fits perfectly! I had a few stems that were a smidge off, but I embraced it — it didn’t ruin the aesthetic of my card.
