Altenew Build-A-Flower: Laelia Release Blog Hop + Giveaway ($200 in total prizes)

Hello everyone and welcome! I’m so honored and excited to be part of the welcoming committee for Build-A-Flower: Laelia 🥳. You should have begun your blog hop at Altenew Card Blog and have arrived from Joylita Dsouza . Now that we know you are in the right place, onto the project!

Lately I have really wanted to experiment with making brighter projects. I always feel pulled to the more muted tones most of the time, but really working on the brightness!

I began by heat embossing the outline image with Rose Gold embossing powder onto A2 watercolor cardstock. Watercolor Brush Markers have such gorgeous pigments, so I decided to pull those out for this project. I began with Warm Sunshine to color the image the full layer. Orange Cream and Warm Sunshine were added in areas for depth and dimension of color. My leaves were colored with Turquoise and Lagoon was used to add detail to the leaves. I was very happy with the color of my floral and came to the awkward point that I wanted to watercolor the background, but was nervous! I jumped in with both feet, applying Purple Wine. Multiple layers of color were added to get this bright tone shown in the photos. This is the exact reason I chose these watercolor brush markers — they make it so easy to add such vibrant color.

To add the white splatters I originally started with Pure White ink spray, but it was not opaque the Purple Wine could be seen through. I used my 24 pan set to add more white splatters to the panel. These were opaque and you could see the white tone I was looking for.

The “hello” was cut from Gilded glitter cardstock with adhesive sheet on the back. I always forget, so I wanted to mention — I remembered!!

How can you get this set?

  1. I know what you mean, I typically played with pastel colors in the past but have gotten more comfortable with going brighter and bolder in my scrapbook layouts. Beautiful, love the bold background.
