Altenew February 2022 Flowers & Swirls Collection Release Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello my dear friends! Grab your favorite beverage (and maybe a snack) as I could not stop creating with this amazing release! If you are hoppin’ down the crafty blog hop, you should have arrived from the mesmerizing blog of Maryam Perez. If you have lost your way a very good place to start is the beginning, lol! Head over to the Altenew Card Blog to begin your journey or find your way if you have gotten lost.

Every time I see this card it makes me smile 😊 You guys know how I feel about rainbows. I used washi tape in rainbow colors from all of the thin washi sets from Altenew to cover an A2 panel. On another A2 panel I die-cut the Swirly Elements die and layered this onto the washi tape panel. The Tiny Sentiments: Hello was die-cut from some holographic cardstock from my stash and I also used the sentiment from this accompanying stamp set. I adhered everything flat to the panel except the sentiment. That was adhered with foam tape.

I have been struggling with my hot foiling — I bought a few different machines to see what I like. On this day, I had just opened the Couture Creations Go Press and Foil machine. I was foiling everything — not the cats, I did draw that line, lol! I began by foiling an A2 panel with silver foil and the Splatter hot foil plate. I had the leftover foil on my desk from foiling the Starlight die. I used a blank hot foil plate to foil the leftover of the Starlight die. It was not a perfect foil, but I really liked the interest it added to my project. The sentiment is from the original Sentiment Strips, which was stamped with Obsidian pigment ink on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110# cardstock. The sentiment was adhered flat to the Starlight panel that was adhered with foam tape.

Being Native American, the Wispy Feathers dies were my favorite item in this release. I used them in a unique way that you may not think of. I used my dies with hot foil to create the outline image you see. You can hot foil with any dies you have in your stash! Just treat it as a hot foil plate when you lay the die on your hot foil machine. Follow the exact steps laid out by your manufacturer of your particular machine. I chose a sentiment from the Many Thanks stamp set. I applied inks from the Rainbow Prism ink collection in order from top, clockwise (Parrot, Warm Sunshine, Deep Iris, Lagoon). For additional interest, I added some of the Silky Lilac metallic thread.

This card was one that came from one of those hmmm moments 🧐 I began by splattering a scrap of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110# cardstock with various ink sprays. Ink sprays used: Warm Sunshine, Forest Glades, Orange Cream, Lagoon, Lavender Fields, and Ruby Red. Once the panel was dry, I cut it with the Edged Wildflower die. To complete my A2 card panel, I layered Rhodolite glitter cardstock from the Pink Brilliance pack. The final addition to my project was adding the sentiment from Inside and Out: Thanks stamp set.

These types of cards hold a very special place in my heart! As I have mentioned before, I absolutely adore puzzles – fitting pieces in place. This card panel was just that! If you are going to do something similar, I would highly recommend Altenew’s double-sided adhesive. I didn’t think of it until it was time to adhere 😩. I die-cut multiple images of the Starlight die from Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110# cardstock. I arranged my die-cuts on the front of a Blush A2 card panel. For the sentiment, I chose Label Love stamped with Cloudy Night crisp dye ink. I used to struggle with stamping Label Love until the amazing Stamp Conditioning Erasers came out. Now, I can stamp without frustration! If you have had a similar experience, please give these erasers a chance — they are GAME CHANGERS!!

For this project I used the amazing Magnolia Ballerina stamp & stencil. I stamped the outline (and sentiment) with Obsidian and allowed a little time for it to dry completely before beginning the process of stenciling. My journaling was done with Altenew Fineliner Pens. I did not add foam tape to the back of my photo as I did not want that much height in my album. I added two small rectangles behind the photo to give a little elevation without being too bulky.

Flowers: Mountain Mist, Volcano Lake, Lagoon – Centers: Mango Smoothie

Branch: Dark Chocolate

  3. Lovely! I’m curious about what your thoughts are on the different hot foil machines. I’ve only used the Glimmer but I’m using it on a Big Shot. It has actually worked quite well. I think it is a matter of shimming properly which can be tricky as it is different for each machine with paper weight and die thickness playing a role.
