Altenew March 2022 Folktales & StoriesCollection Release Blog Hop + Giveaway ($300 in total prizes)
Hello everyone and thank you so much for joining me today. You should have started at the Altenew Card Blog and arrived here from the blog of the amazing Maryam Perez.
You guys know I flipped when I saw the Cat Life stamp set, right?!?! I also am in love with the new Botanical Bookmark Die. Currently, I need a lot of help holding my place in books, so you guys are going to see three bookmarks from this release. I may make a fourth to share with this kids as the Cat Life stamp enables me to create a Tuxedo cat, like my grand-kitty Rosie.
How cute would a Rosie bookmark be?!?!
Cats: Cloudy Night, Lagoon, Ruby Red, and Milk Chocolate
I die-cut the Botanical Bookmark from Spicy Yogurt Cardstock. I used the Teeny Hearts stencil with Limestone ink to add interest to the panel without taking away from the adorable cats. The image was stamped with Obsidian Pigment Ink and then added each individual layer. A tip if you are heavy handed like I am, ink the pieces of the stamp separately or make sure to wipe off the blank spots of the stamp. The image was die-cut with the coordinating die. I wanted to have a tad of dimension, so I die-cut one additional matching layer to put behind the inked image. For my sentiment I went back to the Endless Florescence set. I stamped with Obsidian Pigment Ink — to step up the card you could add clear embossing powder. As a final touch, I added a Rock Collection enamel dot in the shape of a heart. I really love having twine or ribbon to finish the project, so it is easy to find in my book. I added a piece of gray/white twine that matched perfectly. Can you see making these as gifts?
This set immediately spoke to me as well! I have pulled this set out so much since it entered my crafty space. You guys know I am a sentiment girl and this set is a game changer! And a gorgeous large floral — I love large florals!! I knew I wanted to watercolor this image as soon as I saw the image of this set.
The image was embossed with embossing ink and Antique Gold embossing powder onto A2 Watercolor Cardstock. I used the Artists’ Watercolor Brushes – Detailed to get into all the gorgeous nooks and crannies.
Florals: Cherry Blossom, Tea Party, Sea Shore, and Fall Harvest
I was super happy to see this coloring stencil as I absolutely adore the Floral Sprig set! Not only is the floral spring an amazing image that has endless possibilities, but the sentiments, oh the sentiments. I wanted to do something a little different on this project, so I decided to start with Parchment cardstock. I decided on a bookmark because I have so much required reading at this point, they always come in handy. You could also use these in your planners.
I decided to use just the stencil, not the stamp set — you know my love of the no-line look. A tip if you would like to duplicate this project – use your die to help you make sure your stencils are lined up correctly. You will see below with my color selection I am still working on creating new color combos. I hope you will try one you haven’t tried before! My sentiment came from the amazing Endless Florescence and was stamped with Obsidian Pigment Ink. This is literally my new right-hand stamp set ❤️ The bookmark was finished off with twine from my stash.
Floral: Pinkalicious, Purple Wine, and Grapevine – Leaves: Sweet Leaf – Branch: Sand Dunes
I am beyond in love with Geometric Botany! I love how stamping this once creates a fun coloring sheet. I began by using embossing ink and heat setting with Antique Gold embossing powder. I used Woodless Watercolor Pencils and a waterbrush to color the panel. This project almost ended up in the bin, but was saved by a dear friend! Once I added the gems, I liked it a little better. I think I would have been happier with the result if I had used my 24 pan watercolor set — or can you imagine metallics? I haven’t even stamped all the images yet — so many possibilities with this stamp set.
Woodless Watercolor Pencils: Orange Cream, Desert Night, Ruby Red
Die: Bold Thanks (Jet Black, and Gold Foil cardstock)
I love that Altenew is starting to release stencils for the Paint-A-Flower series. I was shocked to find that I did not have this stamp set!! You all know how I love the look of no-line when I make my projects, so I decided to go ahead. The only change I would make possibly would be to add the ”branch” at the top. However, I really like the look of the ”dots” floating on my panel.
Camellia: Pastel Sunrise, Canyon Clay, Burnt Red – Leaves: Misty Moor, Marshland – Branch: Mangrove Root
Die: All About Thanks
Cardstock: Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110#, Dark Gray
This set was the first I ripped out of the box! I still have so many ideas for this set. I started by masking the panel about where the ground would be and started creating my background using Cloudy Sky with the Cloud stencil. Once the cloud background was done, I moved my piece of masking tape to the clouds and added Grass Field using a large blending tool. To finish the panel I stamped my sentiment with Obsidian Pigment Ink. If you wanted to add a special touch, you could add clear embossing powder at this stage. To finish the project I stamped the tree with colors listed below, die-cut the image, and added foam tape before adding to panel.
Tree: Citrus Burst, Maple Yellow, Honey Drizzle, Hazelnut, Milk Chocolate, and Almond Butter
