Altenew Educators Support Educators

When this hop was announced I had three educators in my life that I dearly love. The first, is my husband. Sean spent his entire career in education and coaching. He held a Masters in education and certificaiton in Sports Managment. Sean was not only a teacher at every level, he also was a principal in China for three years. He never stopped his pursuit of learning of helping others achieve their goals, me especially.

My other two educators I want to celebrate I actually met because of my husband. Annie and Steve Birchak have also dedicated their lives to the education of others. Annie’s focus has been in Special Education and Steve a college professor. Both Annie and Steve have impacted my life in more ways than I could ever count. I’m excited to celebrate them today for the self-less and amazing educators, but also people.

hello

For this card/bookmark set I used both Build-A-Flower and Paint-A-Flower: Poppy. I stamped the outline on my card in Pure Graphite. For my poppies, I alternated between using inks 1/2 and 3/4 from Tea Party. I love this combination and definitely need to use it more often. The flower centers were stamped using Nature’s Wonders ink family. I used limestone on the bookmark to add interest. I just cut two masks from an Altenew invoice to place while I stamped the leaves. I was also super excited to use up some of my ribbon hoard I’ve had for YEARS! The card was splattered with Antique Silver metallic ink spray and finished off with enamel dots in Jet Black from Green Fields.

This bookmark is especially meaningful. My husband and Steve were co-writing a book at the time of his death. I thought Steve might like to have that on a bookmark to remind him of his dear friend.

I started with the Live Your Dream paper pack and die-cut two pieces with the Tall Tale bookmark. I also added a couple pieces of Neenah Solar White 80# card stock in the middle to give it some heft. I set aside my die-cut pieces and started working on my alpha. The calligraphy alpha was the perfect elegant touch to my Gold Foil card stock. I did remember to put adhesive sheets on the back of the letters before I began. Unfortunately, I did not with the bookmark die. To fix that, I simply die-cut the bookmark die from the adhesive sheets and applied to my project. It worked out perfect!

To make this bookmark extra special I used doubled ribbon to create my bow.

I’m so excited to get these out to Annie and Steve to enjoy. It is always wonderful to have the opportunity to thank others for what they do.

  1. Bridget, what a nice tribute to your husband. And such a nice way for your friends to be honored. Educators do not get enough recognition. Your card and bookmarks are beautiful. I too am a ribbon hoarder (and a paper hoarder). I enjoyed your post today.
