Altenew Paint-A-Flower: African Daisy Outline Stamp Set Release Blog Hop + Giveaway ($200 in Total Prizes)
Hello everyone and thank you so much for joining me today! I am so honored to be a guest designer to celebrate our newest member of the Paint-A-Flower family: African Daisy. Before we get into all the crafty goodness, I want to make sure you are in the correct place if you are following the blog hop. You should have arrived from my dear friend, Amy Hill‘s blog. If you have lost your place, or want to start from the beginning, head over to the Altenew Card Blog.
Now that we know you are in the correct place — let’s get into the crafty goodness! First and foremost, I have to tell you I couldn’t decide if the image was my favorite or the sentiments. You guys know I LOVE sentiments — it’s the first thing I look at when I get a new stamp set.
For this project I started with a piece of A2 watercolor cardstock. This is my favorite watercolor cardstock to use as it has a smoother texture. I started by placing my image in my stamp positioner. I have been doing most of my stamping by hand, so it was fun to pull this out. I stamped the image as high as I could on the cardstock with embossing ink and then flipped my paper. I planned to put my sentiment strip over the areas that were double-stamped. I heat set the image after using Pure White embossing powder over the entire panel. I pulled out my watercolor brush markers to color the image. I used : Warm Sunshine, Paper Bag, Just Green, and Persian Blue. Paper Bag was exclusively used on the centers of the florals. I would wet the area I was working on with my fine watercolor brush before using the pigmented watercolor brush markers. I was able to keep some areas lighter than others simply by doing this technique. I love being able to stretch my colors and use a limited palette. Once the florals were colored with Warm Sunshine, I used the same method with Just Green on my leaves. Finally, it came time for a background. This many times is where I get stumped — there are SO many options.
This time I opted to keep it simple! I used Persian Blue to trace the image and then pulled it out with my fine watercolor brush. I would go back in and add more color if the water muted an area too much.
I chose my sentiment and stamped it onto a piece of Neenah Solar White Classic Crest 80# cardstock with Pure Graphite crisp dye ink. I allowed the sentiment to dry — I wanted to be SURE I would not smudge it at this point! Altenew gives us so many coloring mediums, I love how the colors are constant across them — it worked to perfection for me on this project! I chose to use Persian Blue crisp dye ink and a large blending brush to create my sentiment strip. I trimmed the strip down and added it to a panel of Gold Foil cardstock.
When I added the sentiment it still was missing something…..enamel dots! I pulled out the newest enamel dots Black & White and chose three that were the same size. I did try mixing sizes, but it just did not look right to my eye.
